Nandhalala - A musical Journey

I bought the ACD of Nandhalala from Music World, Annanagar, Chennai recently with usual hopes of nice music from the real Maestro himself. What could have been a pass of the mill album or more picture oriented musical, this one stands apart from all the other albums with cut above the rest with mesmerising music. Read on to know about the tracks...

Track 1 : Mela oornthu oornthu
Singers: Maestro

Na.Muthukumar has not been my fav lyricst (in Siva Manasula Sakthi, he has used all complex lyrics) till I heard this track. Know for his unusual wordings and phrases even for songs, Na.Muthukumar had to keep it simple for this track. Simple instruments and Maestros voice adds good tempo to the song. High on repeat value, this one will grow on u the often you listen to it !

Rating: 4.5/5

Track 2 : Onnukonnu
Singer: KJ.Yesudas

Yesudas is everyones favorite. Though we hear him very less in Tamil, his voice has never lost its golden value and is much much better than all the new singers. This song talks about love and friendship unseen in Life. Should be visually pleasing when seen in the movie. The music is amazing and lifts the songs lyrics to a higher level.

Rating: 4.5/5

Track 3: Thaalatu Ketka Nanum
Singer: Maestro

Another soft number entirely different from the first 2 tracks. This one has good flute usage and starts off as a pathos song. The songs talks about lost love and ones aching for it. Maestros renders his soulful voice and the music tempo builds slowly, reminds little of the Pithamagan number "Ilankaathu", still the score keeps it distinct from his earlier scores

Rating: 4/5

Track 4: Kai Veesi
Singer: Vijay Yesudas, Madhu B, Swetha

Peppy number and celebrates life. Breaks away from the first 3 tracks and lifts the spirit of the album overall. No techno jazz, simple piano music and addition of various instruments adds value to this number. The Singers have done a good job and the accompanying flute music in the background is something you dont get to hear these days ! Distinctive Maestro style !!

Rating: 4.5/5

Track 5: Oru Vaandu Kootame
Singer: Maestro, Master Yatheeswaran

When was the last time you heard a fantasy number in a mainstream movie ?! This one has the right mixes of a kid and a man think-alike emotions ! Beautifully written by Kabilan, the song is a sweet number with little less on repeat value, but will be excluded from the movie as per the CD prints

Rating: 4/5

Track 6: Elilea.. Elilea
Singer: Saroja Ammal

This is a traditional gypsy song sung with a Udukai sound, the song could be used for a filler place in the movie. The song is more of a picture oriented piece than a listeners delight

Rating: NA

Overall Maestro has delivered a masterpiece and has stood apart from his fellow musicians in not following the commercial, masala route. The album is high on repeat value and is definite to strike more hearts if the picture delivers even half the music value !

Drona - Does he win ??

Much awaited movie of the year (atleast thts wht the ads say !) is soon to be released and the music is out soon with a controversy ( if u had been watching news channels, would knew by now). I downloaded this music with quite some less expectation, since I was already grooving to Kidnap music and liked Imran in his first movie (by the by Love Story 2050 is out on original DVD, who wants to buy anyways !!).

To make things easier and save time, I browsed the internet and found a review close to my thoughts and its below. Thanks to my fellow blogger !

Kotha bangaru Lokam !

I returned recently from a Hyd trip, all exhausted, the sun, humidity, dust et all was everywhere and the travel from the new airport (where the internet never worked) to the hotel was more tiring than ever ! Well this time an not writing about the aiport or the city, its about Mickey J Meyers new movie album titled Kotha bangaru lokam means new golden world ! For who remember his first album Happy Days would appreciate this album as well as it carries the same trait and genre forward with a little more pep added, read on to know more ....

Track 1: Kalasalolo (krishna chaitanya, adithya, siddarth, kranthi, shashi kiran)

youthful track with lots of chorus singers thrown in, its lifts the track the right foot ahead. typical college song where all the subjects are targetted, the track has decent music and should be good to see on the screen !

rating: 4/5

Track 2: Nijanga Nenea (Karthik)

melodious track, very soothing and the beats are very appropriate for the song.

rating: 4/5

Track 3 : confusion (krishna chaitanya, mickey j meyer)

talks about the choices the youth have today and the confusion it causes.run of the mill track, nothing to add here !

rating: 3/5

Track 4 : Nenani Neevani (Shweta Prasad)

title track of the album. little mix of bass and traditional sounds makes this track interesting ! Shewtas' voice is noticeable and adds well to the track.

rating: 4/5

Track 5 : Ok Anesa ... (Naresh iyer, Kalyani)

repeated over three times, u may like this track. has little of hindi lyrics and youthful track.

rating: 3.5/5

Track 6 : Nee Prashnalu ... (SPB)

awesome track, and no questions of spb voice. he is kewl as always and the music is peppy adding to this track. listen to feel the beats !

rating: 5/5

Overall Album rating: 4/5
verdict: very good and no masala hypes !

Sakarakatti - Sweet Enough ?

This movie is making some news in Tamil movie industry for the below:

1. Baghyarajs' son is making his debut in this movie as the Hero
2. Kalaipuli Thanu, fame producers' son is making his debut as the Director
3. ARRs' peppy musik
4. The cost for one the songs is a whooping 2 crores (Ocher Studios Graphics included)
5. ARRs' first time music for a debutant hero and director movie!

Lets check out the tracks :

1. Taxi Taxi Singers: Benny Dayl, Blaaze, Viviane Chaix and Javed Ali.
Lyrics: Blaaze, Na Muthukumar, Viviane Chaix

Unsure if its French or Spanish lyrics added to this song, but it fits the bill and been the opening track for this movie, its quite interesting to hear some rap from Blaaze. The beats are interesting and theme of the song is based on friendship. If Mustafa song from Kadhal Desam was for the 90's this song should prove it for the current generation. However the songs lacks the Orchestration and the flow of Tamil lyrics which could have done wonders to this track !

Rating: 4/5
Verdict: ARRs usual stuff, hear it for the beats.

2.Chinnamma Singers: Benny Dayal, Chinmayi. Lyrics: Pa Vijay.

Hindi version of Chinnama Chilakamma been remade in Tamil. Nothing to write home here, since the original hindi song is not that old to be forgotten. Lyrics from Pa.Vijay is good and will create some freshness in the song !

Rating: 3.5/5
Verdict: Original is always better !

3.
I Miss You Da Singers: Chinmayi, Indai Haza. Lyrics: Na Muthukumar

Different ! thts what you will say when you hear to this track. Usual gal missing guy song. The song makes use of some bass thumping and sample tracks for other english songs. Nothing original here, however the way the track runs is good, given we are still hearing Jaane Tu..., this song would be a good choice for Tamil song lovers.

Rating: 3.5/5
Verdict: Jaane tu (Aditi) tamil version (theme wise) !

4. Naan Epoudhu. Singers: Reena Bharadwaj. Lyrics : Pa Vijay

Oh come on ! wht was ARR thinking ??? Another remake from Meenaxi. Yeh Rishta kya kehta version. One of my most favs in Hindi, nothing excited me when hearing it in Tamil. Skip it !

Rating: 3/5
Verdict: Nothing !

5.
Marudaani. Singers: Madhushree, A R Rahman Lyrics: Vaali

Madhushree voice is soothing. Her Tamil pronunciation uh-ho !! Not much of hype song, little techno and folkish, the song is good. Not the best though. Reminds some remake, some remix, some old 80's song...... unsure which one.

Rating: 3/5
Verdict: There had to be a Hero/Heroine love song !

6. Elay Singers: Naresh, Kartik

Starts off with strings sound. Tamil version of Roobaaroo from RDB (Theme wise). Does sound well and is quite diff for tamil. Karthik and Naresh Iyers, 2 youthful voices blend well to give the required pep to the song. Definitive one for todays generation if the screenshots go well with this song

Rating: 4.5/5
Verdict: Youngistan track !

Overall Rating: 3.75/5
Overall Verdict: Would I buy the original CD after listening to the samples, not sure ! maybe after hearing to it like 10 time, I might be forced to buy it to add to my ARR collection of Originals !! Lets wait and see....

Top 10 Car Tracks - Jul 2008

Current hit list as per the July releases, might change as and when there are more new movies joining the list !!

1. Bachna Ae Haseeno - Movie: "same name"

This remix version of the old 70s song by Vishal-Shekar is worth listening. if you are a remix fan and like to pump up the volume its definitely on there in your Car and take it with you for a long drive.

Rating: 4/5
Verdict: Interesting mix, lasts only 3 mins.

2. Singh is Kinng -Movie: "Same name"

Title track of this movie sung by Snoopy Dogg and Akshay lends a earful for this track. Starts with Snoopy rapping and grows on you with heavy techno beats. Its a RnB attempt of punjabi and english lyrics. Worth for its pump volume

Rating: 4/5
Verdict: Grows on you after listening couple of time, nod your head to the beat

3. Jee Karda - Movie : Singh is Kinng

Must be picturised on Kat I guess ! Cant wait to see this floor burner number on BIG screen. Interesting mix of beats and techno beats, ideal for your ipod too. Good tune set to bring the house down.

Rating: 4.1/5
Verdict: Dancefloor number, suitable for remixes (DJO are u listening ? :))

4. Jaane Tu Mera Kya Hai (Aditi version) - Movie : JTYJN

ARR takes it slow and gives the extra Bass to ensure we are glued to the headsets and the tempo builds gradually. Runas' voice renders the pain, waiting for the call, hearts voice for longing love! Listen to it when its raining !

Rating: 4/5
Verdict: Adds to interesting listen, go for the BGM of the track

5. Om Zarere - Movie: Kuselan

No questions, just add it. it worth all the sound infused in it and makes it definitely for making turn their heads when your sub is blasting in your car !!

Rating: 5/5
Verdict: Pokiri raja, pollathavan nee.....

6. Taxi Taxi Movie: Sakarakatti

Interesting mix and has some good rap thrown in by Blaaze. The lead singer Benny Dayl, who is the recent fav of ARR is hitting in most of his tracks. This track talks about friendship and why one needs a friend ? Quite interesting ! As always like ARR other tracks, listen to it thrice and you will groove for the beats !

Rating: 4/5
Verdict: Peppy and fresh for Tamil movies.

7. Elay Movie: Sakarakatti

Quite youthful and if you like guitars, go for this track. Foot tapping and quite different mix in the BGM the song is definitive for all music lovers. Little bit of Scottish music and thrown with lots of english words in the lyrics, the mix is good. Go Elay.....

Rating: 4/5
Verdict: Kadhal station vanthuduchu.........

8. Theneeril.... Movie: Subramaniyapuram

Interesting picturization ! I liked the song post seeing the video. Quite diff shots for the theme of the song and is defnitive for car audio. Go for the beats and the hip-hop beats. Very addictive track !

Rating: 3.75/5
Verdict: Slow in parts, still makes it up with the guitars and hip hop beats

Tracks 9 and 10 are empty. Will update as and when they are more released !

Kuselan Audio ! Does it or not ?

Kuselan Audio released worldwide and I got to hear it the next day when I bought the CD from Temptation M (CMH Road) in Bangalore, which had posters stuck all over the shop. Now thats way the shops are supposed to be decorated when its Thalaivar audio release !! Lets dive into the audio review....

Song1 : Cinema Cinema (Shankar Mahadevan)

To commemorate 75 years of Tamil cinema this song was supposed to be penned down. Shankar Mahadevans voice is quite good and adds more punch to the song, His earlier opening song for Baba was lukewarm, still was a good number from ARR. Going with the music looks like a potential opening titles songs with graphics of old movies thrown in and the second half song dwelling into Rajnis old movies !
Overall rating: 4.5/5
Verdict: Strictly for Rajni Fans

Song 2 : Sollama (Hariharan, Sujatha)

The song penned down for Meena and Pasupathy who are starring in the movie as the Barber family. Soothing number, well then we have had numerous soft numbers in the past, so GVP has been forced to think different and does he pass ? Well he does, and the number is quite nice for ears and lets to listen once in a while, nothing much to write here !

Overall rating: 4/5
Verdict: Nice melody song

Song 3: Om Zaarere (Daler, Chithra, Sadhna Sargam)

Wow ! Thts the impression you get when u listen to this number. Well there is always a high pitch number for Rajni in all his movies and Om Zaarere follows this trend. Daler has limited his risks and hasn't sung many lines for this song. The Angels Chithra and Sadhna have added amazing tilt to the song and it makes to listen to it often. When I say often its like every 7 mins 08 seconds, this is the longest track in the CD !

Overall rating: 5/5
Verdict: Amazing track to listen in your car with sub on

Song 4: Chaarale (Shreya Ghosal)

Picturised on 9yantara, nothing to write much on this number, passable and makes one skip it. Maybe the visuals can change the way the song is been rendered ! lets wait and watch for this number.

Overall rating: 3/5
Verdict: Skip it for the DJ to remix

Song 5: Perinba (Kailesh Kher, Prasanna)

The same singers who gave us the Veyilodu velaiyaadu song from Veyil. The background music is a direct repeat of the same song. However the rustic music and the lyrics make it listenable and then repeat it and again repeat. Lets give the song a fair chance and does it leave an impression, well, it does ! Should be an interesting version to watch it in the movie !!

Overall rating: 4/5
Verdict: No techno beats, will make it hit for all masses

Overall Album rating: 4.5/5
The album is a definite hit and lets one feel the aura around Rajnis true stardom and will be worth the wait to check it out when the movie releases !
